Hours of work: 36 per week (8.30 am – 4.15 pm (Mon-Thurs) and 8.30 am –4.00 pm (Friday) with 30 minutes for lunch) (this includes 1 hour every day after school to undertake study)

Annual holiday entitlement: Term time working only (39 weeks)

Pay: £165 per week with a six month pay review

Job description: – working within a specialist resource provision

  • Delivering work, care or support programmes to individual pupils or groups to enable access to learning for all pupils
  • Providing general support to the class teacher in the management and organisation of the pupils resources (to include specialist resource provision) in the classroom
  • Supporting the teacher in behaviour management and reinforcing agreed policies and procedures specific to the SRP and the whole school
  • Supporting in the development of other key skills which aid pupils’ learning, e.g. Numeracy, Literacy
  • Helping translate tasks at pupil level by restructuring them into achievable steps
  • Taking appropriate action related to any problems or emergencies that occur during the lesson in accordance with the School’s policies and procedures
  • Helping to care for unwell children
  • Providing general administrative support to the teacher e.g. photocopying, filing, laminating, collecting money etc.
  • Providing general organisation support to the school e.g. duties and educational visits

Skills & abilities required:

  • Effective use of ICT to support learning
  • Use of other equipment technology – video, photocopier
  • Understanding of relevant polices/codes of practice and awareness of relevant legislation
  • General understanding of national curriculum, including the SRP (children with social communication difficulties including autism) and other basic learning programmes/strategies
  • Basic understanding of child development and learning
  • Ability to self-evaluate learning needs and actively seek learning opportunities
  • Ability to relate well to children and adults
  • Work constructively as part of a team, understanding classroom roles and responsibilities and your own position within these
  • Able to understand the importance of being punctual and the impact absence has on effectiveness of the team


  • Anyone aged 16 and over may apply for this apprenticeship
  • GCSE passes in maths and English are desirable but not essential requirements
  • Applicants must reasonably be able to travel to work within a maximum of 1 hour

Apprenticeship Information:

  • Intermediate Apprenticeship Framework  – Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools
  • Functional Skills in maths, English and ICT at Level 1 (if required)
  • Level 2 BIIAB Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools
  • Minimum duration: 12 Months
  • A minimum of 1 day per week will be allocated for training purposes
