Hours of Work: 9.00 a.m. to 5.15 p.m. (Mon – Thurs) 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. (Fri) with 1 hour for lunch

Annual Holiday Entitlement:  31 days per annum plus statutory days                                         Age: 16 +

Pay: £210 per week

Job Description:  Working within a large team:

  • Handling customer enquiries received by telephone, email, face to face, website or other correspondence within agreed target times & to agreed customer service & corporate standards
  • Actively encourage customer to use the most efficient method to gain access & information about council services
  • Undertake & assist with any training/development activities as directed, in order to acquire & improve customer handling skills, update service knowledge & IT skills
  • Maintain accurate records & information for the provision of information & services to customers, using the most appropriate system
  • Carrying out any administrative tasks required in response to customer enquiries

Skills & Abilities required:

  1. Knowledge of customer care, able to deal professionally with telephone callers
  2. Good communication skills with clear spoken English
  3. Able to follow procedures & work to deadlines
  4. Able to work flexibly within a team; asking for & giving support as needed
  5. Numerate, accurate, methodical & well organized
  6. Accurate I.T. skills & knowledge of MS Word, Excel & the Internet
  7. Able to understand & respect the importance of confidentiality, both within & outside the workplace
  8. Aware of Health & Safety & Equality & Diversity
  9. Able to understand the importance of being punctual & the impact absence has on team effectiveness


  • Anyone aged 16 and over may apply for this apprenticeship
  • GCSE passes in maths and English are desirable but not essential requirements
  • Applicants must reasonably be able to travel to work within a maximum of 1 hour

Apprenticeship Information:

  • Advanced Apprenticeship Framework  – Customer Service
  • Functional Skills in maths, English and ICT at Level 1 (if required)
  • Level 2 BIIAB Diploma in Customer Service
  • Minimum duration: 12 Months
  • A minimum of 1 day per week will be allocated for training purposes
