Employer Description: AfC – Community interest organisation, providing children’s services for LBRUT, RBK and W&M

Hours of Work: 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. with one hour for lunch Monday to Friday

Annual Holiday Entitlement: 25 days per annum

Pay: £165 per week with 6 monthly pay reviews            Age: 16+

Job Description:  Working within a small busy team:

  • Answering phones, dealing with customer queries, taking messages and putting calls through to appropriate staff
  • Making appointments and arranging meeting between Head teachers, parents, the SEN Team and other agencies and supporting the Head of Service and Associate Director for SEND with diary management
  • Opening, stamping and distributing incoming mail / dealing with outgoing mail
  • Using the database to access information and update records
  • Photocopying as required, sometimes long runs & scanning in preparation for statutory meetings
  • Maintaining both manual and electronic records, including confidential records, filing documents accurately recording information and archiving files in a standard format
  • Assisting in task-centred projects as required
  • Preparing and distributing agendas, presentations and  papers and learning to take minutes where appropriate for meetings

Skills & Abilities required:

  1. Able to understand and respect the importance of confidentiality both within and outside the workplace
  2. Good communication skills with clear spoken English
  3. Knowledge of customer care, able to deal professionally with colleagues and customers face to face, over the phone and in email
  4. A good level of I.T. skills, including having knowledge of Word, Excel & PowerPoint
  5. Aware of health & safety and equality & diversity
  6. Good organisational skills to enable you to follow procedures and meet deadlines
  7. Flexible, able to work within a team, asking for & giving support as needed
  8. Able to understand the importance of being punctual & the impact that sickness absence has on the effectiveness of the team, the individuals in the team and the families that you work with


  • Anyone aged 16 and over may apply for this apprenticeship
  • GCSE passes in maths and English are desirable but not essential requirements
  • Applicants must reasonably be able to travel to work within a maximum of 1 hour

Apprenticeship Information:

  • Intermediate Apprenticeship Framework in Business Administration
  • Functional Skills in maths, English and ICT at Level 1 (if required)
  • Level 2 BIIAB Diploma in Business Administration
  • Minimum Duration: 12 Months
  • A minimum of 1 day per week will be allocated for training purposes
