Employer description: Community interest organisation providing children’s services for LBRUT & RBK

Hours of work: 9.00 am – 5.15 pm (Monday – Thursday) & 5.00 pm finish on Friday, with 1 hour for lunch

Annual holiday entitlement: 25 days plus statutory days

Pay: £165 per week with six-monthly pay reviews

Job description: Working within a business support team

  • Answering phones, taking messages & dealing with queries
  • Working on reception, meeting & greeting personal callers & making refreshments for meetings
  • Making appointments & arranging meetings, including booking rooms
  • Opening, stamping & distributing incoming mail / dealing with outgoing mail by being part of a rota to frank & take post to the post office
  • Eventually taking responsibility for petty cash including keeping a detailed record
  • Updating standard documents using Word & photocopying, sometimes long runs
  • Using the bespoke database to access information & update records, scanning & attaching documents following in-house training
  • Communicating by telephoning & email with departments, colleagues & stakeholders within AFC & partner organisations
  • Assisting in the raising of purchase orders & ordering stationery / equipment / items for clients as directed
  • Assisting with the management of files & archiving old files
  • Assisting in task-centred projects as required, e.g. arranging travel for staff including writing “travel warrants”
  • Learning to take & type minutes of meetings using Word

Skills & abilities required:

  1. Able to understand & respect the importance of confidentially, both within & outside the workplace
  2. Knowledge of customer care, able to deal professionally with personal & telephone callers
  3. Good communication skills with clear spoken & written English
  4. A working knowledge of office applications such as Word & Excel
  5. Able to learn to use own initiative, to follow procedures & learn to work to deadlines
  6. Aware of health & safety, equality & diversity in the workplace
  7. Able to work flexibly within a team, asking for & giving support as needed
  8. Punctual, with an understanding of the impact absence has on the effectiveness of the team


  • Anyone aged 16 and over may apply for this apprenticeship
  • GCSE passes in maths and English are desirable but not essential requirements
  • Applicants must reasonably be able to travel to work within a maximum of 1 hour

Apprenticeship Information:

  • Intermediate Apprenticeship Framework  – Business Administration
  • Functional Skills in maths, English and ICT at Level 1 (if required)
  • Level 2 BIIAB Diploma in Business Administration
  • Minimum duration: 12 Months
  • A minimum of 1 day per week will be allocated for training purposes
